Description

The Turaco is the next evolution in premium performance from Arno Bernard, building on the success of the iMamba®. Designed and manufactured entirely in-house, it sets a new benchmark for a true “no stick” plunge-lock button mechanism. The action is glass-smooth, the tolerances are exceptional, and every major component is hand-polished and hand-fitted to eliminate machine marks and deliver a flawless finish.

From the hex-shaped keyed pivot system and precision bearing housing to the redesigned titanium thumb stud, every detail has been engineered without compromise. The skeletonised titanium frame keeps weight to under 112g, while the larger backspacer protects the blade tip while closed. Deployment is effortless in multiple ways - flipper tab, reverse flick, thumb roll, or thumb stud, all backed by a rock-solid lockup and zero rattle.

The drop point blade is crafted from Böhler M390 stainless steel, heat treated to 63 HRC for outstanding edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Available in hand-polished mirror belt satin or stonewashed finishes, and paired with premium inlays including carbon fibre and select natural materials, the Turaco is a statement piece - meticulously made and built to be used.

  • No-Stick Button Lock: Precision-engineered plunge lock design delivering ultra-smooth, reliable action.
  • Four Deployment Options: Flipper tab, reverse flick, thumb stud, or button.
  • Premium Bearing System: Phosphor bronze/ceramic multi-row Skiff bearings (14 balls total) for fluid, controlled opening.
  • M390 Super Steel Blade: Böhler M390 stainless steel, heat treated to 63 HRC for exceptional edge retention.
  • Skeletonised Titanium Frame: Strong, balanced construction at just 112g.
  • In-House Craftsmanship: Hand-polished, hand-fitted components with zero rattle and exceptional tolerances.
  • Blade Finish Options: Both versions start with a stonewashed finish. The mirror version is then hand-finished on a very fine belt to achieve a satin sheen, while untouched areas retain the original stonewash texture.
  • Compact Yet Robust: 7.84" overall length with a 3.4" blade
  • Premium Inlays: Exotic natural materials and modern carbon fibre variants available.
  • South African Made: Designed and manufactured entirely in-house by Arno Bernard in South Africa, reflecting a legacy of precision craftsmanship and uncompromising quality.

Turaco

Last year I hunted high & low for an imamba, and of course this year the retailer I trust and do the most business with announces "oh hey guess what?" so I had to put my hand up immediately!
1st impressions, straight out of the box, the turaco feels just a little better than the imamba I've been carrying regularly, just a little more refined, a little more ergonomic, action definitely feels better (but I am a sucker for a button lock) and fit & finish are as perfect as expected.
I have a few high end knives that sit on the shelf on display and don't really get any action, but I can't see me carrying anything other the turaco in the immediate future.
very impressed, thanks again adv carry!

Plunge Lock Perfection

TLDR: Buy this knife, it's a grail!

I know...plunge lock! People will run away screaming, but this thing is rock solid being about 4mm in diameter (check out Kev's (LeftyEDC) review, he ends up doing a full teardown).
I wish I was articulate enough to explain how smooth this knife is, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of witchcraft involved though. There is absolutely zero lash in the closed position and zero play throughout opening to the open locked position, not even a hint of play other than the axis it's moving on.
The smoothness! OMG! The CNC machining + multi-row skiffs + the design + the tuning = other-worldly action, seriously, witchcraft!
Detent comes from the plunger (no bearing) and is spot on, there's a spring under the plunger you cold mess with to change the detent's torque but why would you mess with perfection?
I have reasonably large hands and all 4 fingers fit on the handle without the pinky even thinking about sliding off the back and choked up on the choil combined with the jimping, I feel I could perform surgery!
And finally, let's talk about us fidget folks because gawd damn! Flipper, thumb, reverse and button...SOOOO much fun, I can easily reverse flick this lefty, something I struggle with on most knives.
I know it's a lot of money, but it's a lot of money for a reason, pretty sure this will be considered a grail in 12 months if it isn't already. Ask Mitch for the version you're after and see what he comes back with, I have the TechnoCarbo Gold Mirror and it's beautiful, I now want to add the Turaco Mirror Flipper in Blue Mammoth Molar too, it's so good I want a second one!
Cheers,
Glen
