Description

The TRM Neutron 2 Titanium is a refined take on one of Three Rivers Manufacturing’s most respected designs. Known for their precision and consistency, TRM has built a reputation for producing some of the most dialled-in EDC knives in the game, and the Neutron 2 backs it up. This titanium liner lock version steps things up with a more premium feel, while keeping the slim, lightweight profile that made the platform so popular. Paired with a MagnaCut blade, it delivers excellent edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance in a blade that’s built to be used, not babied. Clean, capable, and quietly confident, this is EDC done right.

  • 3" MagnaCut stainless steel blade @63+ HRC for exceptional edge retention with high toughness and corrosion resistance
  • Flat titanium handle construction for strength with minimal weight
  • Frag milled handle surface milling
  • Slim, lightweight profile for comfortable everyday carry
  • Smooth, reliable liner lock operation
  • Carbidized Lock Bar for increased wear resistance in the lock interface
  • Rock Solid Pocket Clip, deep carry with enough height to accommodate thick work pants
  • Made in the USA by Three Rivers Manufacturing
  • A highly regarded model within the EDC community

A high price for disappointment

The Nuetron 2 did not meet my expectations for a high priced USA made knife, instead I felt more disappointed. Here are my points.
- The Neutron 2 that I received does not have a consistent quality of milling on the show side scale. Even though the pattern is meant to become finer further down the scale, mine basically becomes almost smooth with very shallow milled lines closest to the bottom, and even a small but noticeable scratch. I did think that was odd to begin but thought maybe that’s just how it should be (not the scratch), until I noticed the clip side scale which showed a far better detailed and milled pattern all the way through, I could even tell the difference by touch. Hopefully something can be organised about replacing it.
- The pocket clip is no joke horrendous, good luck trying to ever slide it over your pocket seam unless they’re paper thin pants, I was trying it on standard jeans. It requires you to pry it outwards with a finger or two to have a chance of clipping it over, which definitely is not fun for the fingers after the first couple of times.
- The thumb studs require a small rubber O ring to make deployment easier and feel comfortable, another extremely poor design considering they can get lost, which is not unlikely. I guess you can change them for different colours for very minimal customisation, but TRM couldn’t even be bothered to pack a single spare O ring for it or put one on both sides of the thumb studs, just the left side.

There are positives,
Aesthetically it looks great, the blade geometry paired with its thin super sharp from factory edge slices like a dream. Even though it’s an overall thinner knife it feels sturdy with a nice use of premium blade steel. the lock is easy to get to as well.

From my experience I do NOT recommend this knife.

Thanks to Adventure carry for being fast and reliable yet again with delivery, a great online market place for EDC.

Thanks for the detailed review, and for the kind words about Adventure Carry's service. We're sorry to hear the Neutron 2 didn't meet your expectations.

The inconsistency you've highlighted with the milling on the titanium scales isn't something that's been reported before, and we've already raised it with TRM. They're currently investigating it, and we'll work with them to determine whether your scales fall outside their manufacturing standards. We'll be in touch as soon as we have an update.

The pocket clip and thumb stud O-rings are definitely subjective design choices. Some users love the strong clip retention and the added grip from the O-rings, while others prefer without. We appreciate you taking the time to provide balanced feedback by highlighting both the positives and the areas you feel could be improved.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. We'll continue working with TRM and will keep you updated.

Thanks

TRM Nuetron 2

Three rivers Manufacturing - small in house makers of fine quality knives. This neutron is one of their bread and butter line. It’s the mid size and is in my opinion the perfect all rounder for EDC. My only gripe is the deep carry clip which is exceptionally wide, but functional.
